(GITARRE & BASS MAGAZINE)
On “Fortuities”, Irina Kühn alias Plain Folly mixes elements from Alternative Rock, Art Pop, Trip Hop and Electronic Music in a very distinctive and unique way. Her strong and multifaceted voice fascinates right from the start, swinging between sweet and self-confident, soulful and desperate, endearing and powerful. Each song is a mixture of explosive and driving, but also melancholic and vulnerable moments. With her music, Plain Folly lets her audience participate in some of her very intimate experiences, dreams and desires, enchanting them with her enthralling vocal presence.
Not only is Irina Kühn the voice and face of Plain Folly but she writes, composes and arranges all of the songs herself. Concerning the professional production of her first 4-track EP, she teamed up with producer Tom Schenk (Mini Moustache, Gravity Saints, Eyes of Solace, Stone the Crow). Whereas, on the record, Irina plays all instruments herself, including guitars, piano, electric bass and bass synthesizer, well-known German drummer Moritz Müller (Heavytones, Joris, The Intersphere) was responsible for the beat. “Fortuities” mixes the energy, atmosphere and sound of bands like Mutemath, Dredg and The Intersphere, while adding some brand-new and unexpected components.
